Salt-n-Pepa is an American hip-hop duo formed in the 90's. The hip-hop group has sold more than 13 million albums worldwide.

About

Salt-n-Pepa began when Cherry "Salt" James" was asked to rap his boyfriend's song along with a co-worker for his production class at Center for Media Arts New York. The three began working on the single, "The Show Stopper". In 1985, it was release under the name "Super Nature" and became an underground hit entering the national R&B Charts. They signed in with Next Plateau, Salt's boyrfriend became their manager. In 1986, the duo released their debut album, Hot, Cool And Vicious. The follwing year, the singles, "My Mike Sounds Nice", "Chick on the Side" and "Tramp" became a hit. The group was nominated at the Grammy for the remix of "Tramp". Salt-n-Pepa added a new member, DJ Spinderella (Deidre "Dee Dee" Roper) and was included in their follow-up album, A Salt With a Deadly Pepa. It included the hit "Shake Your Thang".

In 1989, they came out with their third album, Black's Magic. It was a huge success and earned respect in the hip-hop industry. The single "Expression" stayed on te charts for eight weeks and became a gold hit. The next single "Let's Talk About Sex" was another pop hit. Salt-n-Pepa made another single promoting safe sex called "Let's Talk About AIDS". The group decided to part ways with Azor, who was now Salt's ex-boyfriend for several year. In 1993, they released Ver Necessary under London/Polygram. The single "Shoop" peaked at #4 on the pop charts and "Whatta Man" featuring En Vogue was at #3. In 1995, the single "None of Your Business" won a Grammy for Best Rap Performance. In 1993, Salt-n-Pepa appeared on the comedy series Who's the Man?
