As the first hardcore rap outfit, Run DMC set the sound and style for the next decade of rap. By the end of the '80s, they became the number one Hip-Hop group worldwide. They released several numerous hit singles and albums including Tougher Than Leather.

About
Run DMC was formed by "Joseph Simmons" who was born on November 14, 1964, he was the brother of "Russel Simmons" who formed the hip-hop management company Rush Productions in the early 80's. Russel encouraged his brother Joseph and his friend "Darryl McDaniels" to form a rap duo. In 1982, after the two graduated from high school, they recruited their friend, "Jason Mizell".
They released their first single, "It's Like That" in 1983 and became a Top 20 R&B hit. Their other single, "Hard Times" was also a hit. In 1984, two other singles, "Rock Box" and "30 Days" was spawned. These are all included in their self-titled debut album released that year.
In 1985, they released their second album, King of Rock which features their R&B Hit singles, "King of Rock", "You Talk Too Much" and "Can You Rock It Like This". Their next album, Raising Hell was released in 1986. It spawned the Top Ten R&B Single, "My Adidas".
The band has issued more several albums such as, Tougher Than Leather released in 1988, Down With The King in 1993 and Crown Royal in 2001. On October 30, 2002, Jason was shot and killed by an unknown gunman in his recording studio in Queens, New York.
In 2004, Rolling Stone Magazine ranked them #48 on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. They were inducted in the Long Island Music Hall of Fame in 2006. In 2007, they were voted as the Greatest Hip Hop Group of all time.
