Genie and Juno Award winner Rufus Wainwright is a singer and songwriter, who successfully recorded four albums Rufus Wainwright, Poses, Want One and Want Two.

Rufus Wainwright was born in July 22, 1973 in Rhinebeck, New York. He lived with his mother when his parents divorced in Montreal. At the age of 6 years old, he started playing the piano. When he was just 13 years old, Wainwright went on tour with his mother, sister Martha and aunt Anna and called themselves McGarrigle Sisters and Family. The following year, he was nominated for a Juno equivalent of a Grammy Award for Most Promising Young Artist and his song, "I'm A-Runnin'" was nominated for a Genie equivalent of an Oscar for Best Song.
As a teenager, Wainwright came out as a homosexual. As an adoloescent, he took inspiration listening to operas and looking up to performers such as Edith Piaf, Al Jolson and Judy Garland. Wainwright attended Millbrook School in New York and studied music at McGill University. From classical music, Wainwright moved towards pop and rock. In 1998, he signed in with DreamWorks Record, they released his self-titled debut album, it received good reviews. He also appeared of the soundtrack of the film Shrek and The McGarrigle Hour. In 2001, he released his second album, Poses. After the release he toured with singer Tori Amos. Wainwright settled in Bearsville Studio to record his third album, Want One. It was released on 2003 followed by Want Two.
