About
Rosemary Clooney was born on May 23, 1928 at Maysville, Kentucky to "Andrew Joseph Clooney" and "Frances Marie Guilfoyle". At fifteen years old, Rosemarie's parents were separated. She stayed with her father. Rosemarie attended high school at Our Lady of Mercy in Cincinatti. She made her singing debut together with her sister Betty on Cincinnati radio station WLW in 1941 at 16. They also worked with band leader "Barney Rapp". Barney used to work with Doris Day and Andy Williams. The two joined Tony Pastor’s big band orchestra in 1946 and toured with them for a few years.
In 1949, after her sister retired from singing, Rosemary went to New York to launch her solo career. She record ""Come On-a My House" in 1951 under Columbia Records which became a hit. Other hit singles includes, "Hey There", "This Ole House" and "Tenderly. She appeared in the movie "White Christmas" opposite Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye and Vera-Ellen in 1954. Rosemarie was featured in the half hour syndicated television musical variety show entitled, "The Rosemary Clooney Show".
She left Columbia in 1968 and signed a nrew recording contract to MGM Records then to Coral Records. Towards the end of 1958, she signed a recording contract under RCA Victor Records. She signed a recording contract to Reprise Records in 1964 and in 1965 to Dot Records. She went to United Artist Records in 1966. Toward the late 60's, Rosemarie encountered many problems such as a divorce from her husband. She again failed another love affair and developed addiction to prescription medication. She also seen the assasination of her close friend "Robert Kennedy". Because of this, Rosemarie had mental collapse which she spend years for recovering from it.Her career when back when she sang a duet with Wild Man Fisher entitled ""It's a Hard Business" in 1986. However, in 2001, Rosemarie was diagnosed with lung cancer and died on June 29, 2002.
