About

Early Life

Rick Astley was born Richard Paul Astley on February 6, 1966 in Newton-le-Willows, St. Helen Merseyside, England. While playing in a club in England with his soul band then called FBI, he was discovered by record producer Pete Waterman. He went to London with Pete and there he worked in the recording studio. He learned the ropes in recording at a young age and was supposed to start his own but turned in to singing and songwriting rather than producing.

Popularity

His first taste at fame was when he released his first solo single "Never Gonna Give You Up" on 1987. Soon when the single was released in US it also topped the US singles charts which was followed by a second chart topping single "Together Forever". The single immediately spent five weeks on top of the British singles charts.

Then on that same year he released his debut album "Whenever You Need Somebody" that reached number one in the British albums chart. On 1991, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified the album for having sold more than two million copies worldwide while total world sales for Astley's records including singles and compilations reached forty million.

Currently, according to his official website he is currently recording a new album but no official release date has been advised.
