About
Relient K is comprised of vocalist/guitarist/pianist Matt Thiessen, guitarist Matthew Hoopes, bassist Brian Pitman, and drummer Stephen Cushman. They released their self-titled debut album in 2000, under Gotee Records owned by dc Talk's Toby McKeehan. The band followed up a record in August 2001 with The Anatomy of the Tongue and Cheek, where Cushman was replaced by Dave Douglas.
Brian Pitman was later replaced by John Warne on bass and backing vocals. The band's current line-up includes Jon Schneck on guitar, plus banjo and bells. Their music is distinctly Christian rock, coupled with catchy melodies as well with everyday subjects like weather or geography.
The Anatomy of the Tongue and Cheek led them in the Christian rock fame, but it was their third album Two Lefts Don't Make a Right...but Three Do that started their mainstream popularity. The album was released in Spring 2003 and debuted at #38 on Billboard's Top 200 album chart. It was also nominated for a Grammy award in the category of Best Christian Modern Rock Album.
Their November 2004 fourth album release, Mmhmm, further soared their already rising popularity. It sold 51,000 copies in its first week, and hit #15 on Top 200 and #1 for Christian albums. The album was also certified gold in July 2005, together with the previous Two Lefts Lefts Don't Make a Right...but Three Do. Mmhmm released the singles "Who I Am Hates Who I've Been" and "Be My Escape" which did very well in both mainstream radio and tv.
The band will be releasing their new album Five Score and Seven Years Ago on March 6, 2006.

Nov 10, 2006 - Info about the new album!!
On March 6, 2007, Gotee Records/Capitol will release Five Score And Seven Years Ago, Relient K’s fifth album in seven years and the follow up to 2004’s mmhmm, the band’s third consecutive Gold album.
The album, most of which was produced by Howard Benson in Los Angeles with three tracks completed thereafter with the band’s longtime producer Mark Townsend in Nashville, is a departure of sorts for the pop-punk band. For starters, there are some love songs – happy ones. “I always write about what I’m going through and I can’t avoid the fact that I’m just really happy and there are some good things going on,” says lead singer/guitarist/pianist Matt Thiessen. This happy state of mind lights up the exuberant first single “Must Have Done Something Right.” "This song represents something that I've wanted to create for a long time,” he explains. “It’s not a political commentary or a tear jerking emotion-piece, it’s just a feel good, fun song. Written at 3 a.m. with a smirk on my face, the song turned out to be something that you can tap your foot and smile to.”
"Five Score and Seven Years Ago" will have 14 tracks, as listed below:
1. Plead the Fifth
2. Come Right Out and Say It
3. I Need You
4. The Best Thing
5. Forgiven
6. Must Have Done Something Right
7. Give
8. Devastation And Reform
9. I’m Taking You With Me
10. Faking My Own Suicide
11. Crayons Can Melt On Us For All I Care
12. Bite My Tongue
13. Up And Up
14. Deathbed

Trivia
- Matt Thiessen, Matt Hoopes, and former bass player Brian Pittman have known each other since they were in second grade.
- Not only does Matt Hoopes still have his old Plymouth Reliant, but Matt Thiessen has also said that after the band started, he bought his own Reliant K.
- The band's name was intentionally misspelled to avoid trademark infringement over the Reliant name. When they later found out that the trademark wouldn't be an issue, they kept the name, as they found the misspelling funny.
- Relient K, along with Hawthorne Heights, Emery, Plain White T's, and The Sleeping, are currently playing in the 2006 Nintendo Fusion Tour.
- The Relient K songs "Be My Escape" and "Who I Am Hates Who I've Been" can be added to the Christian video game Dance Praise via the Dance Praise Expansion Pack Volume 3: Pop & Rock Hits.
