Prince is a popular and influential Academy Award winning American musician. His biggest album to be released was Purple Rain.

About

Prince was born on June 7, 1958 at Minneapolis, Minnesota to John L. Nelson and Mattie Shaw. His father was a member of a jazz trio, The Prince Rogers Trio. This is where he gets the name of Prince. His real name is '’Prince Roger Nelson

In 1960, after the birth of his sister, his parents separated. Prince had a bad relationship with his stepmother so he decided to run away from home. He went to his father. After that he stayed in their neighbors, The Andersons whom he befriended their son, Andre.

Prince and Andre with Charles Smith, cousin of Prince formed a band called, Grand Central when they were third year high school.

In 1976, Prince started giving his demo tapes. Warner Bros. Records signed Prince a recording contract. In 1978, he released his debut album, For You under Warner Bros. The album reached the Billboard chart. His single, Soft and Wet made well on the R&B charts. In 1978, he hired his first backing band with Andre on bass. He released his self-titled album, which reached the Billboard charts. It features his two hit singles, Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad and I Wanna Be Your Lover. In 1980, he released another album, Dirty Mind. The album was notable for its sexually explicit material.

Prince also wrote and produced some albums. He appeared as guest performer on the debut album of The Time. He also composed a songs for, Sheena Easton and The Bangles. Prince was also the backed up singer of the band The Revolution in the 80's and New Power Generation in the 90's.

In 1984, soundtrack of the movie Purple Rain which Prince was the lead role released. It sold more than 13 million copies in the U.S. and stayed for twenty-four consecutive weeks at the top of the Billboard 200. The singles, "When Doves Cry" and "Let's Go Crazy" reached the U.S. singles Charts.

Prince released more successful album. His latest album was 3121 released on the late 2005. It debuted as number one at the Billboard 200 charts. His latest compilation album released on the late 2006 is Ultimate. In the late 2006, Prince was inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame. He also wrote and performed one the hit songs of the animated movie Happy Feet entitled, "Song of The Heart". The song won a Golden Globe for Best Original Song
