About
This LP is a collection of newer and older songs that were recorded live by John Zonn in the studio. This means pure vocal and guitar and no overdubs! There are five newer songs, which were all written in 2004. Also included are three of the favourites from 'Photocopy of My Mind' and one track that Zonn wrote when he was 20 (on the Hard Fruit album). The recording was produced by experienced sound designer, Rikki Borkum, at his Bayside Studio.

Song Meanings
- You Make Me Melt It's a love song, pure and simple, but one with hesitation and indecision attached!
- Caffeine Days About life, and the speed at which it moves - don't waste it!
- Hands of the Brewery A song about being behind bars, 'public' bars!
- Wondering, Wandering Is about wondering around and wondering about the world - perhaps with some disillusionment.
- Headhunter's Song Lyrics that question the world, the Cold War, the Media, Environmental destruction (popular theme here), and that express the spirit of the age for the writer. Tune reminiscent of Neil Young perhaps.
- Glove The 'fits just right'-ness of perfect, eternal love.
- Bringin' it back together Is about the fall and rise of a relationship.
- Body Takes the Years This is a bluesy number, which describes the sense of agelessness achieved when you get to about 30.
- Don't Speak Too Soon Just when you thought it was safe to do something...you spoke too soon!

Reviews
'With the proliferation of singer-songwriters available for your delectation how do you manage to separate the wheat from the chaff? Well my friend this is where I come in, pointing you in the direction of John Zonn. "Who?" I hear you cry. Well that doesn't really matter, you just need to feel the warmth of the acoustic songs that make up 'Portfolio Career', a selection of songs from John's back catalogue re-recorded first take in the studio. This decision is one that pays dividends, as the rough unpolished edges are one of the things that makes these songs special. The other is that he writes lyrics that are at turns, funny, heartfelt, happy, sad and much more about a range of everyday subjects. The album features some intricate guitar playing which can almost appear flamenco at times ('You Make Me Melt') and some accentuated, near crooning vocals. If by nothing else the album justifies itself over the space of one song, the heart rendingly sad 'Hands Of The Brewery'.'
'If you like your music melodic, thoughtful and unaffected you could do much worse than check out John Zonn.'
- Russell Barker (Russell's Reviews Online Music Magazine)
