About

Plies grew up in a small town of East Dunbar in Florida. After graduating from Fort Myers High School in 1994, he became interested in rap music and together with his older brother, Ronell Lavette, they put an indie music label called Big Gates Records in 1999. Plies initially developed the label's artists while his brother stood as the label's CEO and President.

After doing his own version of Tell Dem Krackers Dat which soon turned into a mixtape, he landed a deal in Slip N' Slide Records and released his very first single, Got 'Em Hatin'.

In early 2006, Plies got acquainted with Akon and together they recorded a song called I Wanna Fuck You which Plies penned himself. The song eventually renamed I Wanna Love You and Plies had been replaced by Snoop Dogg after he got involved in a shooting accident in July of the same year.

The incident happened during a performance at Gainsville nightclub in Florida when the organizers of the club informed that the rapper performance will be cut 15 minutes short to give space for Lil Boosie. After hearing it, two members of his entourage released fire to the crowd causing to injure five people but to no serious damage.

Plies got arrested for illegal possession of firearms while his two entourage were charged of attempted murder. Plies were released after bailing $10,000.

On August 7, 2007, Plies was back with his debut album, The Real Testament with Got 'Em Hatin' as its bonus track.
