[edit] About
Plans is Death Cab for Cutie’s first release under its most recent label, Atlantic Records on August 30, 2005. Fans from their previously released albums under Barsuk actually thought the band of selling out because of the huge leap from a small record label to a major one, giving the band an opportunity at bigger and better studios and at being more ambitious with regards to their songwriting and musicianship. Judging from the result of that leap, however, it’s safe to say that Death Cab for Cutie did not lose any edge and instead got even better with their latest record.
In “Crooked Teeth,” one of the chart toppers in this album, the band sings “you can’t find nothing at all if there was nothing there all along.” “What Sarah Said” on the other hand is about loving and losing at the same time. This track is an emotional one, as is “I Will Follow You Into The Dark.” Other hits include “Soul Meets Body” and “Marching Bands of Manhattan.”
Death Cab for Cutie is certainly impressive in Plans. It lives up to expectations of the music lovers who discovered them even before they made a name for themselves, and will definitely attract many more because of the kind of music the band is able to produce.
