About
Formed in 1999 with many musical influences in mind such as Air, Daft Punk and many others, Phoenix was born. They started out as a backing band for Air's Kelly Watch The Stars single. Soonafter, the band performed at small venues and recieved a wide array of fans and became a staple in the underground music scene. Within a few months, the band was signed on Astralwerks Records and began recording for their debut album.
Their first album, United was released in 2000 did not have much attention but the band had a local fan base that kept them writing and recording more songs and releasing their next album.
Their smash hit song, Too Young was featured in the movie Shallow Hal and later in Sofia Coppola's 2003 critically-accalimed Lost In Translation. With movies making theit hits soundtracks, this gave the band a boost in their career and gained them mainstream success. Other hits released were Run Run Run and Everything Is Everything. Both made it to Alternative Pop charts.
Phoenix's next album, Alphabetical gained critical acclaim but failed to do well in terms of album sales. To help still in promoting the album, the band toured 150 dates across 3 continents. The tour was followedf by a live album, Live! Thirty Days Ago. After rigorous touring, the band finally landed in Planet Roc Studios in former East Germany to record and produce their third album, It's Never Been Like That.
Because the relationship and synchronicity of the four gallic boys’ unique mindset started back in childhood, they could afford the risk. They entered the recording process determined to find the sincerity of the first take. There would be none of the luxurious soundscaping they had perfected on Alphabetical or its wildly eclectic but strangely coherent predecessorUnited. This time it was all about spontaneity and rawness.
An upcoming US/European Tour is set to start on April 2006 called Sometimes In The Fall Tour.
