Phantom Planet is an alternative rock band from Southern California. They have opened for many popular artists such as, Guns N' Roses, Sting, Elvis Costello, Incubus, Guided By Voices, The Zombies, and Maroon 5. The band became popular after they released their second album, The Guest that produced the highly popular song, "California".

About
Phantom Planet came together during early adolescence at a local Pizz Hut in 1994. The band is composed of "Jacques Brauther" on guitar, "Sam Ferrer" on bass, "Alex Greenwald" on vocals, "Darren Robinson" on guitar and "Jason Schwartzman" on drums.
Each member came from well-known families. Jason is the nephew of "Francis Ford Coppola" and the son of "Talia Shere". Jason was a famous actor who made a film like "Rushmore" and "Slackers". Alex is a model and became a familiar face in the Chic Gap Commercial. He also starred in the black comedy film, "Donnie Darko". Sam is the son of renowned singer/songwriter and producer "John Farrar".
The band started to perform in an around Los Angeles during the late 90's. They performed in their first show at the Butterfly in Hollywood in 1995. In 1997, they signed a recording contract under Geffen Records. After which, they released their debut album, Phantom Planet is Missing but they have not gain any success yet. They found mainstream success after the band's second album, The Guest which was released in 2002. It features their greatest hit single, "California" which became the theme song for the popular Fox TV Series, "The O.C". Their self-titled album was released in 2004.

- Alex Greenwald became a popular model and the familiar face of many commercials for clothing retailer The Gap. He also played Seth Devlin in the 2001 film Donnie Darko.
- Bassist Sam Farrar is the son of John Farrar, the singer/songwriter known best for notable songs from the movie Grease and other hits sung by Olivia Newton-John.
- Ex-drummer Jason Schwartzman is the son of actress Talia Shire and nephew of famed director Francis Ford Coppola. He is now an acclaimed actor. He starred in I Heart Huckabees, Rushmore, Shopgirl, Spun, Roman Coppola's CQ, Bewitched, and his cousin Sofia Coppola's film Marie-Antoinette.
