Peter Gabriel is an English musician who rose to fame as the lead vocalist of the popular rock group, Genesis. After leaving Genesis, Peter concentrated on his solo career. One of his hit albums released was Security which earned positive reviews from the music critics.

Peter Gabriel was born on February 13, 1950 in Chobham, Surrey, England. He was first recognized as the leader of the popular band Genesis in the early 70's. He left the band in 1976 to concentrate on his solo career.

In 1977, Peter released his first solo self-titled album. It was an instant hit because of the single, Solsbury Hill. In 1978, he released another album. In 1980, after the released of his third album, Peter was established as one of rock's most influenced singer.

In 1982, Peter released his next album Security which was his biggest album so far, earning positive reviews from music critics and went gold. In 1986, Peter's next album was released Sledge Hammer, which is also an instant hit. In 1992, he released his album Us in which he explored the pain of his recent personal problems.

In 2002, after he took a short break in the music industry to concentrate with other works, he released Up, it was his first fully length album. In 2005, he released a new double DVD set, Peter Gabriel Live & Unwrapped.

In 2006, the Seventh World Summit of Nobel Peace presented Peter the prestigious Man of Peace Award. It was presented by the former president of USSR Michael Gorbachev and Nobel Prize winner, Walter Vetroni. In the end of the year, he was awarded The Q Magazine Lifetime Achievement Award. His next album will be due to released on the later part of 2007.
