Pete Rock is an American DJ, producer, and rapper who rose to fame in the early 90's as a member of the duo Pete Rock & CL Smooth. He is also the younger cousin of rapper Heavy D.

About
Early Life
Born Peter Phillips on June 21, 1970 in Bronx, New York he is professionally known as [[[Pete Rock]]. His love for music began at 7 when his family transferred to Mount Vernon and would go with his father who is part time DJ during gigs. On 1988, while going out with Marley Marl on a New York radio show he was recognized by the audience when he used double record to cut up every song contrary to what most DJ's who cut only once in third or fourth songs. He gained popularity instantly and went into producing in the 90's. Later on, he became the other half of the duo CL Smooth where they released and EP on 1991 as well as two full length albums on 1992 and 1994 respectively.
Producing Work
When the duo parted ways, Rock continued to work as a producer. He contributed on several tracks including that of "Juicy" of Notorious B.I.G., "Chief Rocka" of Lords of the Underground and "You Can't Stop The Prophet" of Jeru The Damaja and many others.
Solo Career
On 1997, while working as a part time DJ with Marley Marl on Hot 97s Future Flavas show, he was able to forge a deal with Loud Records to release his debut solo album entitled Soul Survivor on 1998. He was dropped out of the label and has since continued to work under his own label Rapster that released two more albums including PeteStrumentals on 2001 and Soul Survivor II on 2004. While recording he continued to work on being a producer producing several more albums and tracks.
Rock has worked with several artist that he called on to do a guest performance on his albums. Some of these artists includes Inspectah Deck, Method Man, Ghostface Killah, Ghostface and Raekwon
