About

The band was formed in January 1993 when lead vocalist, Jacoby Shaddix and drummer, Dave Buckner met in the football field of Vacaville High School. Later that year, they were joined by Will James and Ben Luther that completed their line up. But two months later, Ben Luther, was replaced by Jerry Horton (guitarist). At first Jerry Horton was anxious to join the group for the reason that the three members were from different schools. At this point, the garage of Dave Buckner was their instrument for their rehearsals and they secured all the gigs they can get just to pursue their love for music.

They recorded their first EP in 1994 entitled Potatoes For Christmas. In this record, Dave Buckner was temporarily replaced by Ryan Brown because Dave was in Seattle, studying art. After a year, they recorded a two track promo album in Sound Farm Studios with Dave Buckner back on drums. They released Caca Bonita under the said label and began touring over the summer to keep the band progressing. During this summer tour, Will James was replaced by Tobin Esperance, who got intensely involved with his church camp activity. Tobin was more active and enthusiastic on playing their songs that the transition became an easy one.

In 1997 another album was produced, Old Friends From Young Years where they also supported other starting bands like Incubus, Static X, Snot and Powerman 5000 while still touring in support of their album.

They released another EP in 1998 entitled 5 Tracks Deep selling over a thousand copies in its first month. Warner Brothers got interested with them and they financed the 5 track EP of Papa Roach. The singles included are Last Resort, She Loves Me Not and Broken Home. Unfortunately, Warner Brothers elected not to sign them for another album. A year later, they released their last EP Let 'Em Know which was considered as the best independent effort of the band. But the journey didn't end there, Dreamworks Records called the attention of Shaddix and offered a recording contract under them. After signing a contract with Dreamworks Records in 1999, they recorded a full-length album with the singles Last Resort and Broken Home (which was included in their 5 track EP 5 Tracks Deep ) that was enhanced to a more energetic and innovative music. Infest was released on April 25, 2000 wherein it sold more than 30,000 units in just a week. Their popularity spread as they toured in different parts of the world and even joined numerous large tours such as Vans Warped Tour and Ozzfest. It received a three-time platinum certification in 2000.

After extensive touring, they hit the recording studio to record their follow-up album lovehatetragedy which was released in June 18, 2002. The album didn't match the sales of their previous album Infest but it did managed to top the charts in the US and UK. That same year, they joined a couple of rap acts including Ludacris and Xzibit on Eminem's Anger Management Tour.

In 2003, the hardworking band prepared to write and record their third major album which was temporarily entitled Dancing In The Ashes then later on was changed to Getting Away With Murder. Papa Roach worked with the well-known producer, Howard Benson in this album. Despite the fans criticizing the album (because of the softer sound compared to their previous albums) they still managed to sell over a million copies and earned them another certified platinum.

The band spent the most of 2005 touring. Then on September 12, 2006, they released their fourth album The Paramour Sessions as an acknowledgment to the recording location, the Paramour Mansion. They started to get back on the road on August 2006 and even toured with bands such as Deftones (US) and Guns N' Roses (Chinese Democracy Tour) on October 2006.
