About
Palm Trees was born in April 2004 in San Diego, California. The members came from stable middle-class families housed not in but near "urban, ghetto" neighborhoods. The original members were all from the El Cerrito neighborhood, which is part of College Area. The first two members were Matt Gibson and James Banks.
Gibson's biological uncle died when Gibson was young, and from him came Gibson's biggest influence in music, his uncle's voluminous record collection. Palm Trees' record label, Uncle Jan's Records, is named in tribute to him. Gibson's first contact with prophecy rock was listening to Banks singing prophetically about a neighbor man and his strange palm tree collection. Before Banks' ideas went cold he started recording him and accompanying him on keyboard, all in his brother's bedroom. Banks and Gibson consider this recording to be "the Grand Prophecy" that partly prophesies their own future. At one time (later), their performance caught the attention of Ari Rosenthal, who gave his contact information to Palm Trees and soon started to audition. His drumming abilities impressed members James "Professor" Banks and Matt "Father" Gibson.
At first they were still hesistant on adding the 15-year old Rosenthal. But when he started making up drum parts that were interesting, livening up their songs, the Lads (Banks and Gibson) saw so much engagement on the drummer. They would then add him and, based on Rosenthal's contacts, hooked up with a newcomer Daniel Konar (bassist) who would later join The Phantoms in 2007. By this time, Palm Trees has to dropped out of school to focus their career in music, but didn't.
Backtracking a bit, in 2005, before adding the "Latterday Lads" (Rosenthal and Konar), Palm Trees decided to form "One" (a one-minute style album) along with Douglas, and various instruments. The debut album "One" garnered instant success throughout the better-informed people of San Diego County. It was on 2005 that Palm Trees decided not to go solo releasing their next albums Age Of Fingers and Times Of Tragedy (which was Certified Concept Album). Their non-solo career was a follow through of the successes they created when they were still their pervious-sized group.
The band experienced a long period of recording (which they described as "Slaying the demonsongs of Recordingheim"), which led to some leaked tracks on their MySpace page in 2007.
