Considered one of the most successful hip-hop groups of all time, having sold over 20 million copies of its eight releases, six studio albums, a greatest hits release and one of only four hip-hop albums to be certified diamond in the US for shipping over 10 million units. Outkast is an American hip-hop duo based out of Atlanta, Georgia. One of their hit album released is, Stankonia.

Outkast is a rap duo which consists of Antwan Patton also known as Big Boi who was born on February 1, 1975 and Andre Benjamin also known as Dre and born on May 27, 1975. Andre and Antwan met while both are students of Tri-Cities High School in East Point, Georgia. They became musical rivals at their school, challenging eached other on a regular basis. Eventually, they decided to form a rap duo, which they named into Outkast.
After graduating from high school, they signed a recording contract under LaFace Records. They released their first single, "Player's Ball", which reached number one on the rap charts. After only six weeks of released, it went gold. In 1994, their first album, Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik was released and reached the top 20 of the billboard charts. It went platinum. The duo also bagged the Best New Rap Group of the Year in the 1995 Source Awards.
In 1996, they released another album, ATliens and reached number two in the billboard charts. It went platinum. Their single, "Elevators (Me & You)" from the album, went gold. In 1998, they released another album, Aquemini also reaching number two and went double platinum. The duo was sued over the album's lead single, "Rosa Parks" by Rosa Parks herself, who claimed that the duo had unlawfully appropriated her name to promote their music and objecting to some of the song's language. In 1999, the initial court's decision was to dismiss the suit.
In 2000, Dre modified his name to Andre 3000. In the late 2000, they released their fourth album, Stankonia. The album debuted number two at Rap charts and went triple platinum in just few months. Their single, "Ms. Jackson" became their first number one pop single. In 2002, the duo and Killer Mike contributed the lead single, "Land of A Million Drums" to the movie soundtrack of Scooby Doo'. In 2003, they released a double album, Speakerboxxx/The Love Below which debuted at number one and gained a pair of number one single, "Hey Ya" and "The Way You Move". The album was certified diamond for 10 million units shipped in December 2004. Its latest certification, in May 2006, reaches 11 million copies in shipping.
