Andre and Antwan met while both are students of Tri-Cities High School in East Point, Georgia. They became musical rivals at their school, challenging eached other on a regular basis. Eventually, they decided to form a rap duo, which they named into Outkast.

After graduating from high school, they signed a recording contract under LaFace Records. They released their first single, "Player's Ball", which reached number one on the rap charts. After only six weeks of released, it went gold. In 1994, their first album, Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik was released and reached the top 20 of the billboard charts. It went platinum. The duo was sued over the album's lead single, "Rosa Parks" by Rosa Parks herself, who claimed that the duo had unlawfully appropriated her name to promote their music and objecting to some of the song's language. In 1999, the initial court's decision was to dismiss the suit.

In 2000, Dre modified his name to Andre 3000. In the late 2000, they released their fourth album, Stankonia. The album debuted number two at Rap charts and went triple platinum in just few months. Their single, "Ms. Jackson" became their first number one pop single. In 2002, the duo and Killer Mike contributed the lead single, "Land of A Million Drums" to the movie soundtrack of Scooby Doo'.
