About
Oasis was formed in Manchester in 1991. It was originally composed of Paul McGuigan on bass; Paul Arthurs on guitars; Tony McCarroll on drums and Chris Hutton on vocals. Paul recruited Liam Gallagher to join the group. Liam was the one who called the group Oasis. Liam also recruited his brother Noel to join the group.
After playing a handful of small club performances, the band went to Alan McGee, the head of Creation Records, and forced him to listen to their demo. He was impressed when he heard their demo tape and immediately he signed them a recording contract. Their first single, Columbia was released in 1994. Their debut album, Definitely Maybe was released in 1994, which reached the number 1 spot of Billboard Charts. The album became the fastest selling debut album in UK.
Their second studio album, (What's The Story) Morning Glory? was also successful. The band became famous in 90's. In 1997, their third album Be Here Now reached number 1 in the UK charts and number 2 in the U.S. Billboard Charts and became the fastest-selling album in chart history selling half a million copies on the first day alone. However, founding members left the group but they still managed to continue their escapade and continue to be successful. Last February 14, 2007, the band received the Brit Award for outstanding contribution to music.
