[edit] About
Three members of the band, excluding Kulash, were members of the Chicago band Stanley's Joyful Noise. After just a few months, OK Go has been around and about the Chicago music scene, gaining a local fan base and considerable media attention without having recorded a single full-length album. Their success attributed partly to an exuberant live show and opening spots for heavyweights like Elliott Smith and the Promise Ring.
OK Go eventually signed with Capitol Records and released an eponymous debut in September 2002, their self-titled album. Their first single, Get Over It scored high on modern-rock radio and became an instant hit. Afterwhich, the band released their sophomore effort, Oh No, to which guitarist Andrew Duncan has left the group. His replacement was Andy Ross.
OK go gained notoriety after making several low-budget music videos but with simple, memorable premises. Their video for A Million Ways features the bandmembers showing off their best sychronized dance moves in the backyard. Another popular video, Here It Goes Again included the guys in their best dance moves on multiple treadmills. The video sparked an icredible amount of user response, especially from YouTube.com, making it one of the most watched video on that site. Ironically, lead singer Damina Kulash was not the one lip-synching in their videos, but bassist Tim Norwind.
On August 31, 2006, OK Go appeared live at the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards performing Here It Goes Again, complete with treadmills. Since their live performance, their album sales skyrocketed on iTunes Music Store and all across America. The single ranked #11 and their album debuted on #2 on hit charts.
Currently, the band is due to tour the U.K this September supporting Motion City Soundtrack after some dates in the US with Panic! At the Disco.
