About
The band was formed by Lou Pearlman, the man responsible for creating the boy bands Backstreet Boys and N'Sync. He created a reality show wherein there's 5 slots in the band and he will fill up these slots from 1800 auditions in eight cities. From 1800, it went down to 25 and down to 8 finalists. The five chosen were Jacob Underwood, Ashley Parker Angel, Erik-Michael Estrada, Trevor Penick and Ikaika Kahoano. Kahoano was then asked if he will choose the band or his family, and he chose his family so the remaining 4 members selected Dan Miller as a replacement for Kohoano.
The show's ratings were strong enough to warrant a second and third season. In the succeeding episodes (after the 5 members were chosen) the reality series focused more on the development of the band, their performances, tours and even the making of their 2nd album O2.
The band enjoyed a mild success, their first album sold 2.5 million copies because of the boost they got from their tv show. Their 2nd album however were below expectation so J Records decided to drop the band from the label.
