About
Notorious B.I.G. or Christopher Wallace in real life was born on May 21, 1972 at Brooklyn, New York to Voletta Wallace. He was raised in Brooklyn's Bedfords Stuyvesant. When he was young, Chris loves to sing rap songs. He used to perform with local groups such as Old Gold Brothers and The Techniques. He uses the name Biggie Smalls. At the age of 17, he dropped out from high school to live his life in the streets.
Chris became a local drug dealer for a living. Upon learning by the police, they caught him in North Carolina and put him in a jail for nine months. When Chris was released, he made some demo tapes which went into the hands of Mister Cee, a DJ working with Big Daddy. Mister Cee gave the tape to a Hip-Hop magazine named The Source. With the publicity, Biggie gain an attention and caught the attention of the producer of Uptown Records, Sean Combs and signed him a recording contract. After signing a recording contract, Sean went out of Uptown to form his own label called Bad Boy and took Biggie with him.
Biggie changed his name to Notorious B.I.G.. He released his debut single, Real Love in 1993, which was a remix of Mary J. Blige single. In November 1994, Tupac Shakur was shot several times at a lobby of a New York recording studio. Tupac survived. He accused Sean and Biggie as the culprit, the two of them denied the accused.
In March 9, 1997, Biggie went to California to promote his album. He also attended a Vime Magazine party. Around 12:30 in the morning, upon returning to his hotel, he was traveling in front of passengers seat with Damion Butler, Junior Mafia, Lil' Cease and their driver Gregory Young. Sean was traveling with another vehicle. At 12:45 a.m., Biggie truck stopped at red light, 50 yards from the museum. While they were waiting for Go sign, a white Toyota Land Cruiser made a U-Turn and cut in between Biggie's vehicle and the Chevrolet Blazer behind. On the other side, a black Chevrolet Impala pulled up alongside Biggies truck. The driver of the Impala rolled down Chris window, drew a 9 mm blue-steel pistol and shot numerous rounds into Biggie's truck. Biggie was shot four times in his chest. He was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. Chris murder remains unsolved up to this date.
Biggie's album, Life After Death which was released after his death, has reached number one. The album sold 700,000 in its first week of released. The single, Hypnotize went platinum. The album is ten times certified platinum.
