About

No Doubt is a California-based band formed by John Spence (on lead vocals) and Eric Stefani (keyboards) on November 1986 in Anaheim. Gwen Stefani, Eric's younger sister, later joined the band as co-vocalist, and they played their first gig that coming New Year's Eve. They then began to perform around Orange County, and was joined by Tony Kanal on bass when he saw one of their gigs. John Spence, however, committed suicide in 1987, but the group carried on even though they were hit hard by his death. Gwen took over as lead vocals, and they recruited Tom Dumont (guitar) and Adrian Young (drums).

In 1994, Eric Stefani left the band and pursued a career in animation, after which No Doubt released their third album, Tragic Kingdom. This album undoubtedly caused their rise to popularity as it sold 15 million copies around the world. They also received four Grammy nominations because of this album.

Six years later, No Doubt released their fourth album entitled Return Of Saturn. Highly anticipated and critically acclaimed, the darker Return Of Saturn was not well received by fans and it failed to achieve the same success as Tragic Kingdom. In fact, the lead single, Ex-Girlfriend, failed to chart on the Billboard Hot 100.

The following releases seemed to erase the memory of the failure of Return Of Saturn, as Rock Steady won Grammy awards and as No Doubt released compilation albums of their tours, of never before heard songs, and of videos of the band, including some of their shows.

Gwen Stefani later released her own project (2002), as did Tom Dumont in 2005. The band claims to remain strong and they are currently working for a 2007-2008 album release, even as Gwen is due to release her second album on December 5, 2006.
