About

Nichole Nordeman was born on January 3, 1972 and was raised in Colorado Springs, Colorado. At her very young age, Nichole already played piano in the church. Her parents divorched when she was 18 years old. By the time she was a sophomore in college, Nichole knew that she wanted a musical career. Nichole was working as a waitress in Los Angeles when she entered a contest sponsored by the Gospel Music Association's Academy of Gospel Music Arts, winning with her song, "Why,".

John Mays, a senior vice president of A&R at Starsong Records, felt that she was uniquely qualified to perform her own compositions and convey their spirit, and he urged her to consider the dual role of singer/songwriter. She soon accepted a record contract from Starsong. Her debut album, Wide Eyed was released in 1998. It chartered at #16 on the Top Contemporary Christian Album Charts. The album features the hit singles, "To Know You" and "Who You Are" both landed at the top of the adult contemporary chart while "I Wish the Same" was No. 2. The album sold 130,000 copies and garnered two Dove Award nominations.

Her second album, This Mystery was released in 2000 and chartered at #16 on the Top Contemporary Christian Albums Chart. After the released, Nichole moved to Dallas. Her third album, Woven and Spun was released in 2002 which landed at #2 on the Heatseekers Chart and #5 on the Top Contemporary Christian Albums Chart. Her first single, "Holy," peaked at number one, and won the Song of the Year prize at the Dove Awards in 2003. The album garnered three more Dove Awards--including Female Vocalist of the Year, Pop Song of the Year, and Songwriter of the Year. Her next album, Brave was released in 2005.
