Neko Case is an American alternative and country singer-songwriter who has captured and maintained her growing fanbase that has adored her for the beauty of her music and unique and sophisticated vocals.

About
Born to Ukranian parents on September 8, 1970 in Alexandria, Virginia but often moved around in her childhood years before settling in Tacoma, Washington. At the age of 15, she became independent. She left home and at the age of 18 she began playing drums for different bands around the Northwest part of the country.
By 1994, she moved to Vancouver, British Columbia to enter art school at Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design while simultaneously playing with a punk rock band Maow. She also played with local bands such as Del Logs, The Weasles and the Propanes. Case changed her style in music from punk rock to country. In 1997, she formed her own backing band as Neko Case & Her Boyfriends and released their album The Virginian. The album is a mix of original compositions and cover songs of Ernest Tubb and Lorette Lynn. Upon its release, it received good feed back and at the same time, comparing her to Patsy Cline.
In 1998, Neko Case graduated with a degree in Fine Arts but her student visa has expired. Before returning home to Seattle, Washington, she recorded a few vocals which resulted to the Vancouver's indie group The New Pornographers' first surprisingly successful album Mass Romantic. Back in Seattle, she began working on her sophomore effort Furnace Room Lullaby, which was released on February 22, 2000 under Bloodshot Records and gained positive reviews from most critics. Case went on tours with friend, fellow singer-songwriter, Carolyn Mark as The Corn Sisters.
Neko Case left Seattle, feeling like her music is not widely accepted there and went to Chicago. She released her home-recorded eight-track EP Canadian Amp in 2001, which was her first record without Her Boyfriends. Followed by her third full-length studio album, Blacklisted which was recorded in Tucson, Arizona and released the following year. The album is darker than her previous albums which won praises and more positive reviews.
On May 6, 2003, The New Pornographers released their sophomore album, Electric Version where Case sang more as the lead vocalist for most of the son. Two years later, August 25, 2005, she again provided vocals on several songs in The New Pornographers third album, Twin Cinema.
Case signed a deal with Anti Records and in 2004 released her live album The Tigers Have Spoken followed by Fox Confessor Brings the Flood on March 7, 2006.

- Her family is of Ukrainian descent.
- Her surname was changed from Shefschenko when the family immigrated to America in the 1940s.
