From WikiMusicGuide, the free music guide. Your music wiki.
The five-man band that is a fusion of both pop-punk and rock named My Chemical Romance is based in New Jersey, USA and owes their band name to author Irvine Welsh. Their debut album "I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love", brought us the hits "Honey, The Mirror Isn't Big Enough For The Two Of Us" and "Vampires Will Never Hurt You" the songs received fairly positive response from the fans, but their second album released in 2004 "Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge" proved to be even more successful since it did not only give out popular songs, but gained a Platinum Certification as well.

[edit] About
The band was generally best buddies from high school in New Jersey, but even if they already graduated, they found time to keep in touch with each other. Once, vocalist Gerard Way and drummer Matt Pelissier tried to write some songs of their own and ended up making "Skylines and Turnlines", inspired from the 9/11 attacks which was witnessed by Gerard Way himself.
Starting with that song, the two collaborated with the other band members; guitarist Ray Toro, Gerard Way's brother and bassist Mikey Way, and guitarist Frank Iero. They also started to tour and to plan for their debut album. The band started a contract with indie record company Eyeball Records in 2002 and released the album entitled "I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love".
The band switched to another record company in 2003, the label wherein they released the Platinum record album "Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge" under Reprise. The said album features the tracks "Helena", "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)" and "The Ghost Of You"
Bob Bryar, the band's present drummer replaced Matt Pellisier after a tour in Asia in 2004.
In March 2006, the band released "Life In The Murder Scene", a DVD-CD set. In October this year the band will release breakthough album "The Black Parade" that made famous this year the song "Welcome To The Black Parade".
In the album tour, the fans were given exclusive black My Chemical Romance clothes to wear while they were outside. As soon as they were inside and the concert was about to start, it was announced that the band to perform was not My Chemical Romance but The Black Parade; the fans were furious, but later they realised that it was part of the album promotion and the tour itself.
Despite of the writers difficulty in classifying what genre of music the band plays, they regard themselves as simply rock. And that sets the record for everyone.

[edit] Trivia
- The title of the book the Irvine Walsh wrote where the band took their name from was Ecstasy: Three Tales of Chemical Romance.
- In a show held this year in the UK, lead vocalist Gerard Way was literally pissed off by the crowd because they were thrown apples, golf balls and bottles with urine. What's great about the band is despite the misbehavior of the fans, My Chemical Romance still played their entire set.
- Thanks to their My Space account, where they gained their first hundred-thousand fans, the band was able to convince fans of the other genres to be interested in them, too.
[edit] Reviews
- At first look you'll be convinced that the band is inclined to the darker side of the music scene. In terms of their lyrics that is kind of cathartic and theatrerical, it remains realistic and still many fans enjoy that and find solitude in listening to the loud, aggressive and ironically honest music that only My Chemical Romance can give. -Vheliefish 02:00, 28 October 2006 (PDT)
