Mutya Buena is currently living with her Irish mother and Filipino father at Kingsbury, Northwest London. Her name "Mutya" derives from the Tagalog word for "muse"' or "beautiful maiden". On March 23, 2005, she gave birth to her first child Tahlia Maya to boyfriend Jay, which was rumored to be one of the reasons why she left Sugababes.

Mutya Buena (full name Rosario Isabel Mutya Buena) is a former member of the pop girlband Sugababes. When they were 13, she and her close friend, Keisha Buchanan met Siobhan Donaghy at a party in 1998 where Sugababes was formed. While with the babes, she recorded four albums with them namely One Touch, Angels with Dirty Faces, Three and Taller In More Ways. After declining to promote the single Ugly due to a certain illness, it was announced that Mutya had left Sugababes in December 2005. According to their website, Mutya's reason of leaving the band is purely personal but her relationship with ex-co-group Keisha and Heidi will remain the same. Eventually, Amelle Berrabah has replaced Mutya. Some of their fans have reacted negatively regarding Sugababes new line up. Numerous critics have even commented that Mutya brought the attitude and presence to the group during her time.
After leaving the band in 2005, Mutya has begun concentrating on working solo. Her MySpace page appeared on April 25 the following year where she featured the demo tracks called Love Story, To The Limit, Wonderful, Dark Side, Suffer for Love and Addiction in her profile. In March of 2006, it was reported that she has recorded a new song with US rapper Tah Mac called Give Back.
In March 12, 2007 Mutya has officially signed with Universal Records for the release of her debut album in UK.

- Appeared on Michael Barrymore's 'My Kind of People' at the age of six.
- The song 'Maya' on the album 'Three' is dedicated to her sister, Maya, who died last year.
- First child with boyfriend Jay, a girl Tahlia Maya was born on March 23, 2005. She weighed 5lbs. & 10 oz.
