Mudcrutch was formed in 1970 and was disbanded in 1975. Just Recently, the band was reunited and released their first self-titled debut album which became hit.

Mudcrutch was formed in 1970 by, Tom Petty and "Tom Leadon". The two are former members of the band called, "Epics". With them are, "Randall Marsh" on drums and "Mike Campbell" on guitar. In 1972, Tom left the group and was replaced by, "Danny Roberts" on guitar and vocals. "Benmont Tench" was also added in the group. They signed a recording contract under Shelter Records in 1974. Their first single, "Depot Street" was released in 1975. After the released of the said single, Danny left the group and was replaced by "Charlie Souza". The group disbanded in that same year. Tom, Mike and Bermont formed a new band called, Heartbreakers. In 1977, Tom reunited the group with Randall Marsh, Tom Leadon, Mike Campbell and Bermont Tench. Last April 2008, their first self-titled debut album was released. The album landed at #8 on US Billboard 200 Albums Chart and #25 on Top Canadian Albums Chart. The album sold 38,000 copies in its first week alone.
