[edit] About
Motley Crue was formed in Los Angeles California by "Nikki Sixx" and "Tommy Lee" in 1981. Nikki was a member of the band, London and so is Tommy. Tommy and Nikki decided to leave the bands they were in. Together, they formed a new band. Tommy has a friend name, "Greg Leon", they were both a member of "Suite 19" before. He convinced Greg to join the band. However, Greg declined the invitation so they decided to audition for their new members. They met "Mick Mars", while he was performing at a certain club. They invited him to audition and immediately he was hired. They still need a singer. Tommy recruited "Vince Neil", his high school friend and so he became the lead singer of the band. The band went through several name changes before Mick suggested the name, Motley Krue, recalling a time when his previous band was described as a "motley looking crew". After that, the band started to performed at local clubs.
The band soon met "Allan Coffman", their first manager. Allan also produced the first album, Too Fast For Love of the band in 1981. The album sold 20,000 copies on its first week alone. In 1982, they signed a major recording contract under Elektra Records. In 1985, their next album, Theatre of Pain was released. After the released of the said album, Vince was found guilty of vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated. He was incarcerated for 30 days. Their next album, Girls, Girls, Girls was released in 1987. The next two years, most of the members sought out drug rehabilitation.
In 1989, the band was reformed and released their hit album, Dr. Feelgood which chartered at #1 on the Billboard Charts. It aslo features the hit singles, "Kickstart My Heart," "Don't Go Away Mad (Just Go Away)," "Without You," which became their first Top Ten Singles. In 1991, they released their compilation album, Decade of Decadence and debuted #2 on the Albums Chart. They released more albums, Generation Swine in 1997 and New Tatoo in 2000 which debuted at #41 on the albums Chart. In 2002, the band members decided to split apart.
