About
Mos Def or Dante Terrell Smith in real life was born on December 11, 1973 in Brooklyn, New York City to Sheron and Abdul Rahman.
Mos begin his acting career at the age of 14 by appearing in a TV Show God Bless The Child. He was also included in the cast of a short-lived family sitcom of You Take The Kids. He was also the sidekick of Bill Cosby on his short-lived detective show, The Cosby Mysteries.
His music career began in 1994 being a former member of a group called Urban Thermo. The group released a debut album before he went into solo in 1996. Mos released his own first single, "Universal Magnetic" in 1996 which was a big hit. In 1998, he formed a group called Blak Star and released a debut album in that same year.
Mos Def released his solo debut album, Black on Both Sides in 1999 under "Rawkus Records. His second album was released in 2004. His third album, True Magic was released in 2006.

- Mos Def grew up during the golden age of hip-hop and has been rapping and acting since he was 9 years old.
- On the night of the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards, Mos Def pulled up in front of Radio City Music Hall on a flatbed truck and began performing the "Katrina Clap" single in front of a crowd that quickly gathered around him. He was subsequently arrested despite having a public performance permit in his possession.
