Missy Elliott is an American singer, songwriter and record producer. She was origninally known as Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott where later she dropped "Misdemeanor" and just goes by simply Missy Elliott.

About
Missy Elliott was born on July 1, 1971 in Portsmouth, Virginia. Elliott is one of the first female hip-hop artist known for a series of hits, where in addition has received recognition as one of the most successful songwriters of the modern music era having crafted a number of hit records for artists Fantasia, Melanie Brown, Aaliyah, Ciara, Tweet among others
Back then in the late 1980's Elliot was a member of an R&B group called Sista where she served as a singer and songwriter. She recruited her neighborhood friend Timothy Mosley as the group's producer and began making demo tracks. In 1991, the group caught the attention of Jodeci member DeVante Swing where Elliot was recruited to perform Jodeci songs acapella for him backstage where it served as a short and casual audition. In short order, Sista moved to New York City, now signed to Elektra Records through DeVante's Swing Mob imprint. When the group left and separted, Elliott began working as an independent singer and songwriter where in 1997 she released her debut album Supa Dupa Fly which featured the hit single "Da Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)" where it establish Elliott as a major force to reckon in the music industry.
