Michelle Wright was born on July 1, 1961 in Morpeth, Ontario. As a child, Michelle used to sing in the car or spending the weekend with her father. After taking up counseling for the mentally disadvantaged for one year, Michelle left Ontario. She performed extensively across Canada and the US before finally securing a recording contract in Nashville.
In 1988, she released her debut album, Do Right By Me under Savannah Records of Canada. It features the hit singles, "Rock Me Gently" which chartered #11 on the Canada Country, "New Fool At An Old Game" which reached also at #11 on Canada Country Chart and "I Want To Count on You".
Her first U.S. self-titled album was released in 1990 under Arista Records and features the hit singles, "New Kind of Love" which landed at #32 at US Country Chart. In 1992, she released her album, Now and Then , which spawned the Top Ten hit and Number One video at CMT, "Take It Like A Man". The album was her most successful album. She scored her third Billboard top 40 hit with the album's third single, "He Would Be Sixteen."
Her next album, The Reasons Why was released in 1994 and features the single, "We've Tried Everything Else". In 1996, Michelle released her album, For Me It's You which received gold status. Her first compilation album, The Greatest Hits Collection was released in 1999. Her album, Shut Up and Kiss Me was released in 2004.
Her first christmas album, A Wright Christmas was released in 2005, and features the singles, "I Know Santa's Been Here" and "Joy to the World". Her latest album, Everything and More was released in 2006. The album features the singles, "Everything and More," "Love Me Anyway," "I've Forgotten You," "Dance In The Boat," "Riding Around The Sun", "I Don't Wanna Be That Strong" and "My Give a Damn's Busted". As of 2007, Michelle has already sold 2 million copies and received 30 major awards.
