About
Michael Learns To Rock was formed in 1988 at Arthus, Denmark by "Jascha Richter" and his sister with "Mikkel Lentz" on guitar and "Kare Wanscner" on drum. Jascha and Kare were both attending high school at the same school. They saw Mikkel and ask him to formed a band. After a year, "Seren Madsen" joined the band on bass. After the group was formed, they already won two music contests. They met J.P. Andersen and the band signed a management contract with him.
They released their first single, "The Actor" in 1991 that was included in their self-titled debut album. The album sold 30,000 copies in just two months and was number one on the sales list for 5 weeks. Their single, not only topped the US Charts but also in numerous country like Norway, Sweden, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Philippines.
Their second album, Colours was released in 1993 and sold more than 1 million copies. The album features hit singles like "Sleeping Child", "25 Minutes" and "Out of The Blue". The album became one of the best selling Danish Pop-Albums ever. Their their album, Played on Pepper was released in 1995 which sold 1.2 million units. It features the hit singles, ""That's Why (You Go Away)" and "Someday." In 1996, their greatest hit album, Paint My Love was released which sold more than 3.5 millions copies in Asia alone. Their fourth album, Nothing To Lose was released in 1997. In Denmark, the album sold 25,000 on its first day alone.
In 2000, Seren left the band to pursue a solo career. The band released their fifth studio album, Blue Night in that same year. In Indonesia, the album sold 42,000 copies in its first day. After the released, the band took an extended hiatus because Jascha worked on his solo album, Blue Earth. The band regrouped in 2004 and released their next album, Take Me to Your Heart. They released their compilation album, The Best of Michael Learns to Rock Live in 2007, which was available to download from their website.
