About
Born Melanie Jayne Chisholm on January 12, 1975 in Liverpool, England to parents Joan O'Neill and Alan Chisholm. Her mother is a singer in a rock band who met his father at a Liverpool club (The Cavern) where The Beatles played most of their early gigs. When she was young, she took ballet lesson which impressed her teachers as well as her fellow classmates. She attended Southgates Infant School, Runcorn Brookvale Junior School & Fairfield Junior School, Widnes Fairfield County High School and Widnes Doreen Bird Performing Arts College.
She started out as a member of the British all-female group, the Spice Girls along with Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell, Melanie Brown, and Victoria Adams (now Victoria Beckham).
Spice Girls has dominated the charts and winning awards all throughout the 90's. They've released three albums which has sold more than 40 million copies worldwide, making them the largest selling and the most successful female group of that era. After the group released their last album Forever, Melanie C. decided to pursue a solo career. She started to build her own career by singing a duet with Canadian rocker Bryan Adams with their single, When You're Gone. After the success of the single, Melanie C. released her solo debut album, Northern Star in 1999. The album peaked at the fourth position in the UK charts, but failed to make it to the top of the US charts, landing at 208th position. Despite the disappointing event, Melanie C. finally got her first number one hit with the single, Never Be The Same Again. After touring thrice and promoting for 18 months, Melanie C.'s Northern Star received a worldwide certification, triple platinum in UK, platinum in Europe and Gold in Australia.
In 2003, Reason was released as Melanie C.'s sophomore efforts. Though the album didn't come close to the success of her previous effort, the record still managed to go Gold in the UK and sold 500,000 units worldwide. After the disappointing sales of her album, Virgin Records dropped her off the label.
A year after departing from Virgin Records, she established her own recording comapny called, Red Girl Records. From her own expenses, she managed to release her third album, Beautiful Intentions with the 2006 ECHO Awards nominated single, First Day of My Life also topping charts all over Europe.
Melanie C. is set to release her fourth album in Spring 2007.
