About
Born as Marit Elisabeth Larsen on July 1, 1983 in Lørenskog, Oslo, the capital of Norway. Larsen was exposed to music at a very young age through her pianist mother and a cello-playing father (Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra). She even took part in musicals played in the Norwegian Broadway. Larsen met future bandmate Marion Raven at the age of 5. With her childhood friend Marion, they released their first album at the age of 12. It is a children album which was nominated in Norway's equivalent to Grammy.
At 16, they decided to form a band, M2M. They signed under Atlantic Records and released 2 studio albums Shades of Purple (2000) and The Big Room (2002). They became worldwide stars with their debut single Don't Say You Love Me featured in the soundtrack of Pokémon: The First Movie. Followed by four more chart-topping singles off the album Shades of Purple.
After the released of their second album The Big Room and while on tour with Jewel, Atlantic Records decided to drop them due to lack of sales despite the album's good sales in Asia, Norway and Australia. This led to the band's break-up. Her childhood friend Marion Raven started her solo career and released her debut album, Here I Am in June 2005 while Marit Larsen continued her study in the University of Oslo then concentrated on her solo career as well.
Before releasing her album, she made several appearances in Norway with a new image. She even participated in the highly anticipated Larm concert in February 2005. And in the fall of the same year, she recorded her album Under The Surface under EMI. The first single off the album Don't Save Me quickly climbed the top ten charts in Norway. And after two weeks, it reached the number 1 spot and spent five consecutive weeks there. Following singles are Under The Surface and Only A Fool. Her album was released in Norway on March 6, 2006 where it became certified gold in less than a month (March 31, 2006). Most of the songs in this 11-track album were originally penned by Marit.
The album was released in the US on September 11, 2006 and plans of releasing internationally in the upcoming months. She has performed in different concerts, headlining for the first time and in different countries such as Germany, Spain and India. Marit won the MTV Europe Music Awards in November 2, 2006 as the Best Norwegian Act. Since the launch of their solo careers, both of the girls topped the charts with their own singles which was never accomplished by M2M.
