About

In this album, Carey convincingly seizes many opportunities to display her incredible vocal range on such memorable tracks as the popular song of "Vision of Love", the energetic "Someday," and the moody sounds of the hidden treasure "Vanishing." With this collection of songs acting as a springboard for future successes, Carey establishes a strong standard of comparison for other breakthrough artists of this genre.

Here's what Mariah had to say about the album: "Reflecting upon the events and circumstances that led me here, I feel extremely fortunate that I have completed my debut album at this stage of my life. My earliest memory is of wanting to be a singer as I watched my mother rehearse when she was a soloist with city opera, and while growing up music was a major part of my life. There was always different types of music playing in the house - whether it was my mother playing Billie Holiday, my older sister playing the Jackson 5 and Aretha Franklin, or my older brother playing Stevie Wonder and Jimi Hendrix."

This self-titeld debut album has sold an estimate 18 million copies worldwide to date (January 2006), and has received certifications in many countries: 44x Platinum and 7x Gold. Quoted as an award winning album it peak in the Billboard 200 on March 2, 1991 and stayed for 11 weeks.
