About
Born in Huntington, Long Island, New York, on March 27, 1970, Mariah Carey is the youngest child of three where her mother is a former opera singer and her father a former aeronautical engineer. Coming from cross-cultural family, her family has to endure racial discrimination. With these, Carey just simply stayed home and this is where her passion for music began. One day while doing nothing, she just turned on the radio and since then, no stopping for Mariah Carey performing in school. She started writing music when she was still in junior high. These gave her the chance to work with musicians Gavin Christopher and Ben Margulies when suddenly her breakthrough came in 1990 after meeting Columbia Records executive Tommy Mottola where she made her debut in the music industry.
She became an award winning singer, became the first singer to have her first five singles top the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart. According to Billboard magazine, she was the most successful artist of the 1990's in the United States.
After 6 years of marriage, her popularity declined when she left Columbia in 2001 and she was dropped by Virgin Records the following year after a highly publicized physical and emotional breakdown and the poor reception on one of her project. Carey later signed with Island Def Jam and after an unsuccessful period, she returned to the forefront of popular music in 2005.
On the set of her single's video direction "Bye Bye", Mariah met Nick Cannon - A Rapper/Singer/Anchor and they got married on April 30, 2008.
