Maria Taylor was born on May 21, 1976 in Birmingham, Alabama. At the age of fifteen, Maria along with his classmate, Orenda Fink formed a band called Little Red Rocket which released two albums, Did You Pay in 1997 and It's In The Sound in 2000. The band was disbanded in 2001. Afterwards, She and Orenda went to Athens and together they formed a new band called, Azure Ray. The group released their self-titled debut album in 2002 and Shiver in 2003. Their final album before going into their solo respective careers was, Hold On Love. Maria released her first solo album, 11:11 in May 2005 under Saddle Creek Records. Her next album, Lynn Teeter Flower was released in March 2007.
