About

Marcia Ball was born in 1949 at Orange, Texas (but grew up in Vinton, Louisiana) from a family that every female plays a piano, she was in the clan of a performing family. Ball started playing piano when she was just only 5 years old, playing an old music from her grandma’s collection. Ball discovered new sounds in her aunt's but her passion for music started at the age of 13 when she heard soul and R&B singer, Irma Thomas.

In 1966, Marcia Ball then decided to form a psychedelic rock band group which called Gum. Their first gig was at Louisiana State University. Ball went to San Francisco and stayed there. She soon played in city clubs together with her new country-band called Freda and the Firedog. This is where she also decided to start making her own compositions.

She has released a series of albums including, Dreams Come True, a collaboration with Lou Ann Barton and Angela Strehli, Grammy-award nominated, Sing It, 2001's Presumed Innocent, and 2003's strong-reviewed So Many Rivers, which cemented her status as a "killer-pianist" and a great singer.

Aside from being a "consummate pro", Marcia Ball is included in Austin Music Hall of Fame. A live album was released in 2005 Live! Down the Road.
