[edit] Biography

There is only one thing you have to know in life, what you want to become. Every action you take is a result of that one decision. If you know, nothing can stop you. Any person can ask Mali Woods who she is, and she can tell you. Ask her what do you want, and she has an answer.

Mali moved here from Minnesota. She sacrificed traditional for unique. Where most people would stop and think, Mali moved. What you already know about Mali is what you know about every other girl who is perusing the same career. Wow, wonderful, amazing she’s played piano since she could walk, she performed here, and performed there, and all these words must mean she is suppose to be a star. Ask Mali, there isn’t any suppose to be’s. In this world, everything is about proving your worth. People look at things thinking “is this worth my time”, “is this worthy of my attention”, “will I benefit”.

Mali’s not in this soul sacrificing business for fame or money. Mali isn’t eating peanut butter sandwiches, skipping meals and taking people’s shit on a daily basis for not having anything to prove her worth. Mali isn’t singing to be seen, or dressing to be noticed. Mali is Mali and you can take her or leave her, but she isn’t giving up. She won’t be stopped, not even by the negativity of uncaring pricks. She won’t stop trying because she can’t. She will tell you THAT is the only suppose to be.

For most women, Mali will be like chocolate, she will just feel good. For others Mali will be an artist you have to really listen to. Nowadays, people have a hard time listening to new artists unless they see the person’s face in every magazine and are force fed the artists song on the radio.

For those who don’t hear her now, they will hear her later. Listen when you want to cause this isn’t traditional. Why? Because you know this story. You have heard this all before. Girl moves from small town with talent, girl plays gigs, girl writes own music, girl trying to make it. Boring.

This can’t be a bio like that, although this may appear like something you might have seen before, it’s not. This artist won’t be treated that way. Mali’s bio is written in her every song. So just listen up.

[edit] Debut Album Melodic Wand

Mali (pronounced Molly)Woods' songs are brimming with everything that makes music a powerful life-force in the world. Her lyrics are poetic, deeply thought, deeply felt and wield that potency all art seeks to accomplish: the ability to tell a personal story that makes us all nod and say, " You just said the thing I've felt all my life but didn't know how to express." Her story-telling follows the courageously forged footpaths of her folk-women predecessors, from Joni to Ani; this is the voice of a new generation of women who do not shy away. And what a voice it is. Mali's vocals soar flip rip dive and twirl through the air and then -- in a moment -- hush to a lull softer than the setting sky. Listening to her will return you to the pure raw beauty of the human voice, which she sets off with guitar accompaniment that takes as many risks as her lyrics and emerges triumphant. Add to this synergy of truth and beauty endless layers of melody, harmony and rhythm, the likes of which you've not yet heard, and what you have is a neo-folk-revolution.
