Luther Vandross was a Grammy-Award winning American R&B and soul singer and songwriter. He sold over 25 million albums. One of the best albums he released was Dance With My Father which he dedicated for his father and won his a Grammy Awards.

Luther Vandross was born on April 21, 1951 at Manhattan, New York. His full name was Luther Ronzoni Vandross Jr. Luther grew up in an incline of musical family. When he was 13 years old, they moved to Bronx. He joined a vocal group called Listen My Brother when he was in high school. They performed onced at The Apollo Theater.

Luther appeared in the album of Quicy Jones in 196. He also joined a theater workshop. Luther also appeared in the first episode of Sesame Street. Luther studied in Michigan University for only one year. He dropped out from school to pursue his music career.

Luther has also been the bakground vocals of Diana Ross, Roberta Flack, Carly Simon, Donna Summer, Bette Midler, Chic and Barbra Streisand. He also produced an album for Roberta Flack in 1972. Luther released two albums with his singing group called Luther under Cotillion Records. The group has a successful singles.

In the late 70's, he also wrote and sang commercial jingles such as Kentucky Fried Chicken's We Do Chicken Right. When the group Change gets him as their guest singer on their 1980's hits, The Glow of Love and Searching, this is the time that a recording notice Luther and get him as their recording artist. In 1981, he released his first album, Never Too Much. The album was a great hit and went double platinum.

LLuther released a series of successful follow-up albums in the 80's and continued to be a guest vocal of some singers. He also continued to be a producer. He produced one of the albums of Aretha Franklin. He also collaborated and produced one of his main influences in music, Dionne Warwick album.

More albums were released in the early 90's and he also done a duet with Mariah Carey. In 2003, he released his album Dance With My Father which he dedicated for his father who died when he was 8 years old due to diabetes. The song won the 2004 Grammy Award for Song of The Year.

In July 2005, Luther died due to Diabetes. On the later part of 2005, In legacy of Luther Vandross, An All-Star Tribute album was released and performed by various artists such as Stevie Wonder, Mary J. Blige, Usher, Fantasia, Beyonce, Donna Summer, Alicia Keys, Cissy Houston, Elton John, Celine Dion, Wyclef Jean, Babyface, Patti Labelle, John Legend, Angie Stone, Jamie Foxx and Aretha Franklin.
