[edit] About

British band Lush began on 1998 in London, England. Highschool buds Miki Berenyi and Emma Anderson started the band and was later on joined by Chris Acland, Steve Rippon and Meriel Barham. Berenyi and Anderson were part of other bands. When Barham departed from the band to work with another band called Pale Saints. The remaining members played gigs around London and bagged a contract with 4AD Records. In 1989, Lush released their debut, “Scar”. The following year, the band went on an extensive tour opening for the Darling Buds and Loop.

Lush’s name was rising. They released other singles, “Mad Love” and “Sweetness and Light” which were a smash hit. The band played in the Glastonbury Festival and received great reviews. In 1991, Lush went to the studio to record their debut album, Spooky, which was released the following year. The album entered the British Top 10 and reigned the U.K. indie chart. Lush went on tour in the U.S. promoting Spooky as well as appearing in the Lollapalooza tour. In 1994, the follow-up album, Split, was issued. It was followed by Lovelife in 1996 with the hit singles, “Ladykiller” and “Single Girl”. They went on tours and appeared on festival. The unexpected happened on October 17, 1996, when Acland hanged himself in his parent’s home. The tragedy resulted to the end of Lush.

[edit] Reviews

  • Lush serves catchy melodies and airy guitars. The breathy vocals are edgy. The disturbing yet dreamlike singles of the band are beautiful. --Mimi 09:30, 31 October 2008 (PST)
