Early Life
Wasalu Muhammad Jaco who play under the stage name Lupe Fiasco was born on February 17, 1981 in Chicago, Illinois. Born to his father who is a prolific African drummer and mother who was a chef, he is the youngest in the family of 4 brothers and 5 sisters. He began to rap at the age of 8 and started to pursue it fully at the age of 17.
Music Label Shifting
Originally he signed with Epic Records with his group "Da Pak" and simultaneously signed a solo deal with Arista Records. While on Arista, he had guest appearances on singles "Tha' Rayne" on 2002 and "K Fox" on 2004. And it was also during this time that he began releasing mixtapes that created huge internet fans base.
When Arista went out of the business, Lupe was signed immediately by Atlantic Records. Before signing Jay-Z had also offered him a record contract with Def Jam, but declined because during that time Lupe had already started his own record company called "1st and 15th". So Jay-Z decided to assist him in the production of his debut album "Food and Liquor".
In 2006 he released a hit singled "Kick, Push" which established himself a popular rapper. And on September 19, 2006 became one of the most acclaimed rap albums having received three Grammy Nominations including the Best Rap album for 2007.
