Lucinda Williams is a popular American Folk Singer. She released several hit albums and singles which includes her first smash hit single entitled, "Passionate Kisses".

About

Lucinda Williams was born on January 26, 1953 in Lake Charles, Louisiana to "Miller Williams", a renowned poet, and a literature professor. At an early age of 6, Lucinda started to composed songs. She plays guitar at the age of 12. Her childhood travels took her from Fayetteville, Arkansas to Santiago, Chile and everywhere in between. Her itinerant nature can be found in her music, as well, since she draws from a diverse array of artists who influenced her. At the age of 17, she did her first live performance in Mexico City with her friend, "clark Jones". She moved in Austin, Texas in 1974. she later split time between Austin and Houston, and then moved to New York.


She relocated in Jackson, Mississipi in 1978 to record her first album, Rambilin under Folkway Records. The album was released in 1979. She returned in Houston in 1980 to record her second album, Happy Woman Blues. In 1984, she relocated in Los Angeles where she started to attract some major recording companies. In that same year, she signed her recording contract under CBS. Her self-titled album was released in 1988 under Rough Trade Records. The album features the single, "Changed The Locks". In 1992, she signed a recording contract under Chameleon Records and released her next album, Sweet Old World.


During her concert tour with {[Roseanne Cash]] and Mary Chapin Carpenter, Lucinda released a single entitled, "Passionate Kisses" which became a blockbuster hit. It landed into the country Top Five in 1994 and won its writer a Grammy for Country Song of the Year. Lucinda relocated in Nashville in 1995. Her next album, Car Wheels on a Gravel Road was released in 1998. The album won universal acclaim, making many critics' year-end Top Ten lists and winning The Village Voice's prestigious Pazz & Jop survey. She also received a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album.


Her next album, Essence was released in 2001 which chartered at #2 on Top Internet Albums Chart and #28 on US Billboard 200 Albums Chart. In 2007, her album, West was released. It chartered at #14 on Top Internet Albums Chart and US Billboard 200 Album Chart. Her next album is due to be released this coming September.
