About

Early Life

Rapper Lloyd Banks (Christopher Lloyd) was born on April 30, 1982 in Queens, New York. Banks grew up without his father in his life since his father was in prison and his mother raised him on her own. Growing up surrounded by violence and poverty, Banks found himself expressing himself through rap. At the age of 16 years old, Banks dropped out of school and started writing rhymes but Banks kept his compositions all to himself. One day, the shy yet talented Banks got the guts to rap his rhymes on the street. People were stunned and encouraged him to record his songs.

Early Career

The name Banks came from his grandfather’s name. He adopted the nickname Lloyd Banks and went to record some mixtapes. 50 Cent was planning to form a rap crew called G-Unit and asked Banks and Yayo to join his crew.

The G-Unit crew gained quick popularity making their singles a hit at clubs. 50 Cent signed in with Interscope Records with his debut album, Get Rich or Die Tryin' which featured Banks. In 2002, Yayo left the crew and was replaced by Young Buck. G-Unit recorded the album, Beg For Mercy was released in 2003. At the same year, Banks took home the Mixtape Artist of the Year award. The following year, Yayo joined in the G-Unit once again.

Solo Career

Banks wanted more. In 2004, he released his solo-debut album, The Hunger For More. Banks was also accused of living a double life as a gay porn star. But the accusation was false, the real actor who had a great resemblance with the rapper was identified.

Reviews

Lloyd Banks has a great flow when he raps plus he has great beats. His storytelling skills can be seen in his “Southside Story” single. Unfortunately, Banks didn’t get the credit that he deserves. He is still living under the shadow of 50 Cent. His The Hunger For More album is the best but the Rotten Apple album lacks rhythm, purpose and content. --Mimi 07:45, 6 March 2007 (PST)
