About
Little Eva or "Eva Narcissus Boyd in real life was born on June 29, 1943 at Belhaven, North Carolina, California. She was one of 13 children. Her earliest singing was done in churches and as a member of the Boyd Five, a family gospel quartet. At a young age, they moved to Brighton Beach section of Brooklyn, New York. At her teenage years, she worked as a house cleaner and as a babysitter for the babies of Carole King and "Gerry Goffin". The two wrote a song, "The Loco-Motion" and gave it to Little Eva to sing it. The song was a big hit in 1962 and became #1 in the US Charts. She scored Top 40 pop hits with "Keep Your Hands Off My Baby" in 1962, and "Let's Turkey Trot" and "Swingin' On A Star" with Big Dee Irwin, in 1963. She continued performing until she was diagnosed with cervical cancer in October of 2001. She died two years later at age 59.
