About
Linkin Park was formed by MC Mike Shinoda and Brad Delson together with their friend Rob Bourbon after graduating from high school under the name SuperXero. They then went to different colleges but continued to play their archaic music. While at college, Delson met Dave Farrell. Shinoda on the other hand met Joe Hahn. Farrell and Hahn also had bands before they met Delson and Shinoda but later decided to join SuperXero which they shortened to Xero. The five men was joined by their lead vocal Mark Wakefield, and together they recorded their first demo tape. The tape was sent to various recording but it as never considered. Shortly after, Wakefield left the band.
After Wakefield left, Shinoda began auditioning for new vocalist and at the same time Delson was working at Warner Brothers Recrodings A&M for Jeff Blue as an intern. Blue alerted Shinoda and Delson about Chester Bennington, of Phoenix, Arizona, whoa was looking for a band after being the lead vocal of his former band Sean Dowdell and His Friends.
Shinoda and Delson ten sent Bennington a tape and Bennington called Shinoda for an audition. The band was impressed by Bennington's abiltiy to mould it to be both soft and thought-provoking as well as hard and attention grabbing.
Once Bennington joined the band, the band tried to have the band signed but unfortunately, the name was already taken by a 70s and 80s band in Australia so they changed their name to Hybrid Theory. It was almost perfect but Farrell left the band for a short while because he still has committments with his former band The Snax, so he was not able tot record bass for theoir first EP. With Farrell out, Delson and a bassist named Kyle Christner played the bass. The EP was released to various record labels, including Warner Brothers Recordings, while other copies were given to early members of the band's newly formed street team. Farrell was temporarily replaced by Scott Koziol.
The band subsequenlty signed to Warner Brothers Recordings, thanks to Blue. But another problem came to them. They needed to change their name because it was copyrighted to a British group called Hybrid. There were many suggestion for the band's name, but Bennington's suggestion was the one that made it. He suggested the use of Lincoln Park because he would drive by Lincoln Park in Sanata Monica California, on his way to the recording studio every day when the band was recording demos for its debut album. Bennington thought it would e a good name because there are Lincoln Parks all over the country. He also figured that the band would be recognized as a local band no matter where they go. Also, it has no meaning allowing it's music to describe itself. However, the domain name lincolnPark.com has already been registered and they can't afford to buy it, they changed the from "Lincoln" to "Linkin" so they could buy the domain name.
They released their debut album Hybrid Theory which not only hit the charts but also been certified Diamond (10x Platinum). Reanimation was then released which is a compilation of different remixes of different song by different artists. They then released their second album Meteora which also hit the charts.
