About

The daughter of comedian Keith Allen and film producer Alison Owen, Lily was born in May 2, 1985 in Hammersmith, London but eventually settled in the Islington, North London. She attended 13 different schools between the ages 5 and 15, including some of the most exclusive and most expensive in the whole of the UK. Yet she developed a street image, which she would carry on later in her singing career. Having had to move from school to school, Lily never managed to develop enduring friendships. To pass the time, she amused herself with music from a wide range of artists like T. Rex, The Slits, Happy Mondays and drum'n'bass. Realizing that music was the path for her, she left school at 15 and concentrated on her singing and songwriting. She developed her own signature of music from a combination of different factors - sweetness of her young age, sophistication from her highly priviledged upbringing, bratty attitude and a slight tinge of rebellion.

In late 2005, she set up a MySpace page and uploaded demos of her songs, regularly updating the growing number of visitors with the latest events in her life. As fans spread links to her profile and tracks, leading to tens of thousands of friends on MySpace, Lily caught the attention of BBC Radio, UK music publication NME, reviews site musicOMH.com and online music blog Popjustice and many other critics. Not long after, signed a record deal with Regal Records (Parlophone/EMI).

Lily immediately worked on her full-length album, intermittently releasing a limited-edition 7" of her song "LDN" in Spring of 2006. This first single peaked the UK Singles Charts at #6. It was immediately followed that summer by the more successful hit single "Smile," which hit the #1 spot during its first week. To capitalize on this momentum, Lily finally released the album Alright, Still later that year.

In spite of her success, Lily continues to update her tens of thousands of MySpace friends with the latest happenings in her career, peppered by rants and amusing critique of other artists.
