About
Lil Wayne was born Dwayne Michael Carter on September 27, 1982 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He came from a poverty-stricken famiy and criminal-infested society at Hollygrove section of New Orleans, which is part of the 17th Ward.
His biological father died when he was only 16, and came his biggest influence in music, his stepfather, Reginald Carter whom Wayne's series of "Carter" album was named after. His first contact with hip-hop was listening to local Cash Money artist such as Pimp Daddy and U.N.L.V. where after, he started performing gigs at the block parties. At one time, his performance caught the attention of Lil Slim who gave his contact information to Wayne and soon started to audition. His freestyling abilities impressed owners Brian "Baby" Williams and Ronald "Slim" Williams.
At first they were still hesistant on signing the 11-year old Wayne. But when he started recording freestyles on Baby's answering machine that haunted the offices everyday, Baby saw so much engagement on the rapper. He would then signed him and hooked up with a newcomer Lil' Doggie who would form the famous B.G.'z. Group that released their first and only album "True Story" on 1995. By this time, Wayne has to dropped out of school to focus his career in music.
By 1997, Wayne decided to form the Hot Boys along with Juvenile, Turk, and B.G.. The group released their debut album "Get It How You Live" where it garnered instant success throughout the south and midwest. It was on 1999 that Wayne decided to go solo releasing her debut album Tha Block is Hot which was Certified Platinum. His solo career was a follow through of the successes he created when he was still with his pervious groups.
