About
Lil' Mama (Niatia Kirkland) was raised in Harlem and Brooklyn. She grew up having seven other siblings by her side. With all the chaos in the world she found peace in poetry and dance. Her father, who owns a record label called Familiar Faces, encourage the young Niatia to pursue music. She signed in with their own label and pursued hip hop. In 2006, she worked with producer, James "Groove" Chambers, in Atlanta City. The two worked on Niatia's debut single "Lip Gloss". The single was played in an R&B radio sation, Hot 97. It got the attention of Jive Records and immedietly signed Niatia in 2007. Lil Mama quickly gained popularity. The "Lip Gloss" video was constantly played on MTV and BET.
