Lifehouse is a rock band from the United States who's first single, Hanging By A Moment hit mainstream hit status in 2000. Their debut album, No Name Face beat heavyweight contenders Alicia Keys and Janet Jackson at the Billboard charts. The band was formed by lead singer and guitarist Jason Wade with his friends Sergio Andrade (bass), and Jon Palmer (drums). Colin Hayden was later added in additional guitar as well as Aaron Lord on various strings. They released their first LP in 2000 entitled, Diff's Lucky Day.

[edit] About

The band was originally known as Blyss in 1996. After performing at various events in Seattle, Washington, Wade moved the band to Los Angeles now sporting a new name, Lifehouse. Their sound was compared as a thicker version of Matchbox Twenty, but Wade insisted their music is original.

By 2000, Dreamworks Records then signed them into their company. By the fall of the same year, they released their first full-length album, No Name Face. Their first single, Hanging By A Moment was a smash hit and was the most played radio track of 2001. Shortly after recording their debut album, Wade and Andrade were the only remaining founding members. Rick Woolstenhulme replaced Jon Palmer on drums, and later his brother Sean Woolstenhulme (The Calling) was added on guitar.

Their international fan base was soon growing in massive amounts. Their next released single, Sick Cycle Carousel was a also hit, though it did not surpass the huge success of their first single. Breathing followed soonafter. But it was Hanging By A Moment that cemented the career of Lifehouse and put them on the music map.

Their second album, Stanley Climbfall released in 2002 shortly after an extensive tour for their debut. By this time, guitarist Sean Woolstenhulme decided to leave the band for personal reasons. The album didn't compare in terms of album sales with it's predecessor, and only released shortlived hit songs like Spin and Take Me Away. In April 2004, Sergio Andrade also decided to leave the band to pursue other individual projects.

On July 2004, the band began work in Maryland for their next effort. Wade and Rick Woolstenhulme remained the active members of Lifehouse. Bryce Soderberg (previously of AM Radio) signed on as the band's new bass guitarist. Their third effort was appropriately titled, Lifehouse. The album was released on March 22, 2005 and produced by John Alagia who previously worked with John Mayer's album, Heavier Things.

The first single off the album, You And Me was released on January 2005. The song was written years before and was originally performed by Wade in the 2000 Indie film, All Over Again. The song also appeared in the soundtrack of Smallville plus three other tracks for a 2005 episode.

Their next released single, Blind in Ocotber 19, 2005 featured former child star Tina Majorino, famously known as Deb in the MTV film Napoleon Dynamite. Both singles were hits in 2005.

The band has confirmed that they are recording the album and intends to release it in early 2007 source. They have no title for it yet but they are referring it to as Album Number Four.

[edit] Trivia

  • Although all the members are Christians and their songs are based on spiritual searching, they claim that they dont want to be thought of as just a Christian band.
  • Lifehouse first used Blyss as the name of their band. But they had to change it when they couldn't copyright that name because someone else already used it.
  • Lifehouse's lead singer Jason Wade used to attend Malibu Vineyard Church.
